Any volunteers to come and cut up our floor?! 🫣 Any volunteers to come and cut up our floor?! 🫣🙋🏻‍♀️ Part 2 coming soon hopefully cos the kids want their front door back. 😂 #bees #beesofinstagram #beehive
Don’t get me wrong, budgets are tight, life is e Don’t get me wrong, budgets are tight, life is expensive, and spending less is my jam. 👏 But spending less at the cost of other people isn’t, which is often what Prime days are. Plus in my experience, the life of being influenced to “save” on a bunch of Amazon Prime sale items we don’t TRULY need isn’t the way to spend less overall. And it also isn’t the way to protect our planet and the people in the Amazon item supply chain. ❤️
.
And I’ve been the “influencer” sharing Amazon links (never hugely, but they used to make me 4 figures annually) and I know the drive to just GET PEOPLE ON AMAZON, is a huge pull. It can suck you in. No the commission isn’t huge BUT as an influencer you get paid for anything anyone buys for a day after they click on your link. So you just want people clicking on the site, all the time, to keep finding things they need, buying them from Amazon, and giving you the commission. I get it.
.
I share links and I have no problem with affiliate sales. But I stopped sharing Amazon links because it didn’t feel right to me. It’s not truly budget friendly, the supply chains are often unknown and questionable, and I didn’t want to promote business done that way. I couldn’t. I want to be using what budget we have to shop second hand, to slow down and not buy, to think more before clicking, and then to support small businesses where we do need new things. But often, we just don’t.
.
So just go in to the Amazon Prime days with your eyes open. It’s big earning days for Amazon influencers and they might not actually being helping you. You probably don’t need that item, and you might be able to get it for less second hand. And that life of slowing down before buying, it’s way better for the planet as well as our wallets. ❤️
.
Just be friends and lay in your nice boxes team. C Just be friends and lay in your nice boxes team. Come on 😬
I loved how simple it was to them: people are hurt I loved how simple it was to them: people are hurting, we need to do something. 😭
.
I told you I’d circle back with how much we spent and here you go! ➡️ We did £5 on a local waste food pickup with @ukharvest UK harvest (they don’t happen every week but they’re big so we saved a lot here) and then £4 on organic pasta, £4.75 on cheese, £1 on organic passata and £6 on organic coffee beans. Then £5 from our local bulk shop on lots of organic beans, rice, lentils, and oats to make simple meals. £44.75.
.
Lastly, we didn’t plan well and my husband had to buy food on route to a weekend tournament at £14.37!
.
💵 Which is a total of £68.49 for the week. Our usual budget is £125 so we saved £56.51 thanks to our kids telling us to spend less.
.
We’re going to give that money to @wckitchen now they’re operating again within Gaza which they weren’t when we did this week, so if you want an idea of where to give too, check them out. And thank you to everyone who said that it was inspiring, I’m thankful for anyone we get to inspired on any part of this journey of loving people and planet. Honestly I haven’t passed it on to the kids, I want them to know they’re inspiring people cos that’s powerful but I also don’t want them to gloat in other people’s praise on this one… I don’t know. For now, I’m glad they inspired people, but I’m keeping this one just as something they knew they needed to do, and did. ❤️
Note to self: Take the video BEFORE melting in the Note to self: Take the video BEFORE melting in the sweat of a London heatwave wedding, not after 😅🫠 but I loved wearing this second hand outfit! What do you think?!
.
Did you know 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion and textiles industry?! That’s a tenth of global emissions. 🤯 So a massive way we can make an impact with our own lives is to step OUT of that system. Use what’s already in circulation, celebrate second hand clothes. Make then normal. ❤️
.

This dress if from @thrift_plus_uk (they kid to gifted me credit - I’ve soaked gone back with my own money too!) and I can’t sing the praises of their second hand site enough. I knew as soon as I saw the dress online that I was going to love it and… I do. ❤️ Adore it. Same with the shoes: £3.50 from @thrift_plus_uk. The earrings were £2 and a spontaneous charity shop pick.
.
If you’re in the UK, comment “thrift” and I’ll send you £5 off @thrift_plus_uk - and you can get the next thing YOU need second hand and reduce those emissions a tiny little bit! 💪
I mean, I actually am still glad. If nothing else I mean, I actually am still glad. If nothing else we’re getting great, free compost so we can grow veggies at home. 💁🏻‍♀️😅
.
But it can feel SO hard doing all the little things while nearly 100 private jets fly into a city for a wedding. ✈️
.
Despite that, I want to live and raise my kids knowing our actions matter - cos they do. Could one person make more change in a day than I could in a lifetime? 100% yes. But does it mean I don’t do the best I can with what I have? No.
.
And we have to then humbly look at ourselves too, and while we point the finger and say others aren’t using their privilege the right way… we get to ask what we’re doing with ours. Aaaand then we also get to write letters, shop intentionally, avoid strategically, campaign ongoing, and consume wisely. And maybe float a few (second hand of course) inflatable crocodiles in the waters of Venice if that’s what action looks like to you. 🐊 👊
.
What’s your take on the wedding situation? Would you attend? Go by train? Be buying crocodiles?! I want to know!
In my head I have a different style from what my w In my head I have a different style from what my wardrobe actually reflects 😜 but we’re on a journey. And a great, sustainable, SLOW journey to building a wardrobe that feels truly like me. All with clothes that are already in circulation - cos the earth is drowning in clothes and we need to stop that. 🌍
.
@thrift_plus_uk sent me £100 credit and along with wedding outfit, a pair of shoes, and another every day outfit I got this shirt and cap. I don’t know how I’ve missed this company cos it is A GEM for easy second hand shopping, with returns. I made a full try in video you can find on YT.
.
If you want £5 off your first @thrift_plus_uk order (which you do!) comment something and I’ll send you the link. If you search the site you’ll see £5 is enough to get a whole item (like this top, or the shoes I’m wearing to a wedding on Saturday) it’s so worth doing! 🥳
What we looked at and what we got this week. ✌️
.
This was an efficient week where we really just found the things we needed without much looking - such a win! Went in for summer work clothes, school skirts and shoes… came out with: all of them. 👏 No extras and no faff.
.
It’s not usually like that, it usually takes more patience and searching but then sometimes you get lucky!
I read these words that my friend wrote and they r I read these words that my friend wrote and they really hit me. Privilege is so often made out to be evil; something to shy away from admitting we have. And yes, privilege often comes to us by some things that are pretty wrong with society… but it’s not something to shy away from admitting we have if we do. It should compel our hearts to feel, and our hands to act.
.
As I look at my calendar this week, sure I might be derailed somewhere. But it will be by a kid that won’t sleep, or a cancellation, or a broken appliance, or maybe rain when I was planning for sun, some big emotions, hormones, or no food and the need to run to the shops.
.
My calendar has a doctor’s appointment cos we have free healthcare, it has school cos we have a brilliant local school, it has ‘return my parents car’ cos while ours has been broken, we’ve been kindly lent one.
.
This quote is the heart of why I post bits in the internet. Not because we have it down, but because I know we and so many others need to be on a journey. But it really made me take a moment as I picked raspberries and flowers and let the ducks out this morning. There is so much happening in the world, so much our hands and our words and our actions CAN play into. And it’s not about “having” to, it’s about looking at our weeks and our lives, and seeing the disparities and pausing for a second, and feeling our hearts compelled to care and bring change. ❤️
