AD | There’s often a complex story to foods (and AD | There’s often a complex story to foods (and everything!) before they come into our homes, sometimes it can be overwhelming to do better. We’ve taken it step by step for the last decade to do better as we learn. And whenever we can find a product that’s got transparency in its supply chains, and it taking care of the planet as well as coming in at a good price point for our food budget - it’s like a unicorn. 🦄 😅 . When we moved to England 6 years ago, @percol_coffee was one of those brands. Compostable packaging, organic coffee (that we actually liked!) fairtrade certification, and a price that worked for our precious coffee moments every day. We love these bags for coffee on the go, and taking in trips and to work. . Even if it’s just quick “cheers” of our coffee cups in the middle of hectic life, we always use a coffee moment as a second to take a quick breathe and regroup. To be grateful for life. . But those moments that are so needed for us, shouldn’t come at the expense of others. Which is why we love brands that make it easy to do better by people and planet every day. ❤️ . Have you thought about what your money does when i Have you thought about what your money does when it sits in a bank?! It’s making things happen! I’ve been wanting to find a great bank account for our kids that holds the values we want and last year we found one we LOVE when @monzo opened bank accounts for kids 6 and above! . I’ve put a full review of the features we love, the pros (and the few cons!) on thewholehome.co.uk if it’s something you’ve been thinking about. With a quick note on how we love their budgeting tools too for us and the kids. . . Either way, it makes me so sad that this is the norm. We’re spending less on garments (massive problems there) and buying more of them. Budget is often NOT the problem we think it is. It’s a spending habit problem - not a budget problem. So here are my solutions for me: . 1️⃣ Buying things second hand! A great way to avoid things going into landfill after a short number of wears is to keeping wearing what’s already in circulation. Charity shops sew my first stop. 2️⃣ Buy higher quality clothing - even second hand. And definitely if it’s new. I’m looking for natural fibres like cotton and wool that are easier to repair, and can be repurposed better after their life as clothes. Or go in the compost. 3️⃣ Learning to do basic sewing. This lets us repair little things that would cause us to not wear an item. Next up on my list: learning to alter clothing so it can be made to work through more of life! 4️⃣ Changing my mindset on clothes and style. Style isn’t what in the shops currently or someone’s wearing in a video. It’s what I love. I’ve had to work on my confidence in this - but it’s SUCH a key piece. If I’m always looking to brands for what I should wear - I’ll wear everything less as style changes. 5️⃣ Really checking if I need and deeply truly LOVE something before I buy it! Not buying on a whim “cos I can always donate it later.” Cos donating is a burden in many ways, it should be a last resort. .
As long as there’s an influencer out there telli As long as there’s an influencer out there telling people that Shein is what they need, I’ll be out here doing the opposite. ✌️ . And as I log back on - a note on LA fires as it completely links to this same thing. California was our home for years and we watched a wildfire sweep though our town. 💔 It was apocalyptic and devastating - my heart is so so with you if you’re there. Even in living there a decade, I’ll admit I’ve always found California wildfires so complicated in terms of the mix of forestry mismanagement, water use and damns, ignoring the wisdom of indigenous leaders, the fire department and the problematic norm of using incarcerated people to fight fires, the budgets, and then the wider effects of changing climates and human induced climate change that play a role. It’s overwhelming to know how to respond. But seeing so much of a city razed - however we look at it, shows the deep importance of how we manage our relationship to our planet. 🌎 . We need big change. . It’s so easy to question how we can play a role that makes a difference to something so big but our small choices, our votes, our conversations, our consumer choices, the way we ourselves grow and change - they ALL play a part in changing how we treat the world around us and its people. It’s been such a different journey from the one we thought we were going on - in the BEST way. And so easy like Jared said. . I don’t usually do @ocadouk, I hate the plastic I don’t usually do @ocadouk, I hate the plastic bags (I hand them right back - they need a new system.) But this month got me - like every grown up putting together Christmas alongside the end of school December schedule, and work and life… I’m very happy but stretched. . So instead of doing our local shops, I sat down and ordered from Ocado this week. When I shared in my stories someone DMd me this: “This question is straightforward but Ocado is M&S which we know has “isnotreal” as its manager in other words it’s funding genocide of innocent Arab children and civilians. Isn’t this largely unethical? I’m sorry if Im again coming off wrong but this issue can’t have enough platforms and Rome wasn’t built in a day but we as priviliged women who care about society not immediate to us but also those that are 1000 miles away need to really make a stand!” So 👏 Right 👏 Even in my overwhelm I have so many choices and privileges many don’t have. Choice and privilege is not evil, it is something we can use well or not well. Obviously, well is the right answer. . I actually didn’t know and haven’t research this connection but I’m very careful about where I shop. 🛒 I obviously don’t want to fund genocide, war, arms, the mistreatment of people in any way - I’ve talked about that many times. My mental health and lack of enough planning and time (cos: December 😅) needed an Ocado order. BUT I NEVER want to cite ‘mental health’ as a reason other people should be mistreated by my life choices in any way. Yes we need to look after ourselves, but we have to find another route. I find it so frustrating that with how the world is set up, it’s so hard to avoid these things happening. Our world is set up to screw people. It’s so hard to avoid even when we care so much. I haven’t researched this connection, but even if there isn’t one here - the concept is true in so many places. We have to go step by step. Know better, do better, and really work out how to preserve our mental health BUT also take care of people. There has to be a way. . Signed, an overwhelmed mum who hates the way the world is set up especially at a time when consumerism is at its highest for the year. x
2 Free beds = Stopping for coffee and a treat acco 2 Free beds = Stopping for coffee and a treat according to my 3 year old… and me! ☕️ . I always have a running list of things I’m looking for second hand and I check FB marketplace and I pop on once or twice a week to check. It takes patience but makes in manageable to find things. I’ve waited months to find this bed and wasn’t waiting for free but this one popped up free an hour away. I was so happy to find it! . We’re slowly doing a room reno for our two girls and I’m excited to have scored this piece. We have 5 of us and a home office in 850 sq ft which we love, but it means we have to be efficient with every inch! This bed is originally Ikea and the two stack on top of each other so I’m hoping it will make more room for playing in their room! . After we assembled it I realised the Ikea mattresses do it are a custom size 🙄 and ours don’t totally fit - but I want to keep our naturally flake retardant wool ones so we’ll pop the others back on FBM and work with what we have! . Next stop: search for paint for the room. Stay tuned for the full reno!

Tesco wins on the spirulina blue that’s not grey. 🙄 . This is the simple cake formula we always use for everything - it’s on thewholehome.co.uk and this used 1lb of each ingredient! It fed a party of 16 kids and then I recycled it into a second cake for her actual birthday to feed 8! 🎂 . ✌🏼 and now I’m signing out of party mum mode for a while. On to Christmas!
